Physicist Enrico Fermi considered that given the vast number of stars in the universe, if Earth-like planets form in stellar systems, aliens should be widespread in the universe, and a few of them should have reached Earth. He was said to have posed the question “But, where is everybody?” in a discussion with a colleague. Despite the high probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations, there has been no contact with any such civilizations, a contradiction that Fermi pointed out and which he later called “The Fermi Paradox”.
